Despite each world having their own rules, those rules are based on the same building blocs. Those blocs are the different types of energy and their relative properties.

Types of energy

Different types of energy exist that can be splited in three category : Existance, Will and Creation.

Existance

The most common and stable energy we see everywhere. It's the source of every physical and magical properties and shapes the worlds by its properties.

Will

This energy is a force that can store information of its surronding, evolve, think and act. This energy is what forms souls.

Creation

An extremely rare energy with the ability to controls freely other types of energy. This kind of energy is linked to godlike abilities or phenomenons.

Existence

The Existential energy, also called World energy, is splitted into two sub-categories: physic and magic. This energy is shaped relatively to the world core that manages the natural laws within its boundary. It is possible to convert physic into magic and vise-versa, making both those realm extremely close and intricated. It's not rare that magic is converted into matter and matter into magic. However, there will be a small lost in energy in the process and the total amount of energy will not change but simply be transformed.

Physic

The physic form of this energy is related to properties such as gravity, volumes, movement, mass, heat, space, light and electricity. It the the most used form as it allows to structure the world with low energy cost and great stability.

That energy is mostly found in those different state : particles, solid, liquide, gaz or plasma.

Magic

The magic form of this energy is related to properties such as mana, ki, life force and psyche. Magic structure can be made for a short period of time and will strongly impact the surronding while consuming a lot of energy.

Magical particles are generally called mana. Mana is the most commun and basic form of magic. It can be found in three form: gazic, liquide and solidified relatively to their concentration. In worlds where magic exist, Mana is found floating almost everywhere in its the most basic state, making it polyvalant and ready to use. The solidifed mana is like a crystal made of concentrated mana to a point the mana particle are stuck together. Mana is almost weightless and only then concentrated into a crystal its weight can be mesured.

Ki is a special type of magic particle that concentrate into living cells, mostly muscle, and can increase biological proweress beyond the limits of the physical realm.

Life force is something that keeps the integrity of a living being. If missing, even in a perfectly healthy body in appearance will be dead. There exist an opposing force to it that is rarer. In both case, body made to function with one of this force will be negatively affected the the energy of the opposing force. This duality is still under research.

The psyche is the magical property of the brain and its ability to affect the surronding by simple will power.

Will

The Will energy, also called Soul energy is mostly found in brains, soul crystals and elemental cores. It allow to make energy move relatively to a will that evolve subjectively depending of its surrounding and its ability to learn. making the possibilities endless and difficult to predict.

Creation

A rare energy that only a few entities in the universe possess wich are often refered as gods or godlike entities. That energy can shape the two other energies and can even defies the laws of the worlds or even redefine them. It is suspected that a world core use this energy to define its own laws.

Things and entities that possess that energy are often immune from different alteration that may affect them.

Destruction

It is not sure if that type of energy exist or if it is a special type of Creation magic, but this is the only energy that is able to inflict damage on gods and other divin entities. It may also be one of the main energy of the Void.

Categories of magic

Like physics is splitted into different category like gravity, solidity and heat, magic is split into different categories based on their effect and internal structure. Here is a few generic exemples.

Physic alteration

Magic that modify the physical properties like mass, heat, gravity, electricity, time and light.

Space

Magic that modify the localisation of a target and warp the dimensions like teleportation, portals, sub space, summoning and telekinesis.

Biomancy

Magic related to biological structure like life (restoring biostructure), death(destroying biostructure), transformation and creation.

Mana manipulation

Magic that controls mana itself, like moving the environment mana, condensing it into solid shapes and more. Mostly used to create shields, projectiles or temporary weapons. (Mana Bomb, Magic Missile).

Mental

Magic that affect the soul like taming, mind control, illusion, dreams, mind reading, telepathy and memory manipulation.

Elemental

Magic that convert mana into matter and control it, like water, fire or earth manipulation. Holograms are part of elemental magic since it create and manipulate light.

Ki

Magic that mimic the property of the target and improve its efficiency, like we can see with aura users, and martial artists.

Conceptual

Mostly undefined magic, magic sharing different categories or magic with very defined and complexe structure. Some exemples would be music magic, summon painting, necromancy, invisibility or phasing through matter.

Magic-technology

It is possible to artificially create magic effect by forcing the mana to take specific structures throught the use of another magic structure. Different forms exist like runes, magic circles, magic pills, magic forge and formations to spell only a few and the possibility to create those depend of the world possibilities.
